About the Song

Enduring loss can be a winding journey.  We lost my wife Meghan suddenly when she was on an afternoon walk and was fatally struck by a reckless driver.  In an instant our world changed.  Our three children had lost their beautiful and supportive mother, and the pieces of my heart and soul dedicated to her love were suddenly without a physical recipient.

Goodbye Carolina symbolizes my ongoing journey following Meghan’s death.  Its musical arrangement and lyrics represent a myriad of emotions, from the lows of sullen reflection, the rise of anger and confusion, and the healing of spirituality as I've tried to find the light of sun above a sky of dense and darkened clouds.

Meghan and I created so much through our love, so it's fitting that her artwork is the cover of the song -  marrying the entire experience.  This is a piece that saw many different iterations over time; she would explore different colors and textures before finally adding its dashes of yellow - of light - as the finishing touch.  She  titled it: “More Happiness to Be Found”.

Though the lyrics say: "See you on the other side...", I know that what lives in the heart can never die, and I’m grateful to see you everyday.
